1. How is the IB programme at Ecole des Roches different to other education programmes that you have been part of?

Before coming to Ecole des Roches I had never studied in an IB programme. If I compare it to the programmes I followed in other schools, the main difference with the IB is the personal development. The IB at Ecole des Roches wants to develop every aspect of the student, not only the academic skills, by providing a personalized education for its students...

2. What is the one thing that you most like about the IB programme at EdR? Why is this?

My favorite thing about the IB here at Ecole des Roches is the relationship between the students and the teachers. We all know each other well and teachers are always willing to offer help when one of us is struggling. Being a small group of students is an advantage because it means we get a lot of one-to-one contact time with our teachers and it has enabled us to all work together, learning from one another.

 3. Has the IB programme at EdR changed how you see the world of learning?

The IB has taught me how to be independent with my studies, manage my time effectively and mostly how to be open-minded. I have learnt how to research and undertake further reading to gain more knowledge, not only for the subjects I follow, but also about what is going on in the world we live in.  The IB aims to develop the ‘whole’ student, not only the academic side. Even if at some points it can be stressful because there is a lot of work, looking back at it, it is an extremely rewarding experience because of how much I have learnt without even realizing it.

 4. How would you describe the relationship between IB teachers and IB students at EdR?

The teachers and students in our school have the opportunity to get to know each other very well over the two-year IB Diploma Programme. They have created a very good support system for the students, making us feel comfortable coming to them if we need help and being very attentive to our needs. They are happy to stay behind after class to help us with their subject or other projects, such as the Extended Essay.

5. What support have you received from the school for university applications and has this been helpful?

Every week I attend a meeting with our university counselor and IB coordinator. Personally, I have found this very helpful because they know about a lot of schools in different countries. They know what the admissions processes require so they have been able to help us get ready for interviews, entrance exams and have provided all of the documents needed for our applications.

6. What other activities do you participate in at school?

I participate in basketball and tennis as physical activities and Model United Nations as a more academic activity. These activities create a great opportunity to spend time with students and teachers from the other academic systems offered at Ecole des Roches.

7. What else do you like about life at EdR?

I like that at Ecole des Roches there is no separation between the IB and the French and FLE systems outside of class. We cohabit in our boarding houses and do extracurricular activities together. In my personal experience, participating in many activities has been very beneficial and has given me the chance to meet a lot of students that I do not spend time with in class.

8. Briefly describe your daily routine as an IB student at EdR.

In the morning and early afternoon we have classes or free hours that we use as study periods in the study rooms available. During the morning and lunch breaks I usually spend time with my classmates or the girls in my house. When classes are done, there are activities proposed and an obligatory study session in the boarding house. At night I then go to dinner with my friends and spend some time with them before another shorter study session and getting ready for bed.

9. If you could change one thing about your experience as an IB student at EdR, what would it be?

If there was something I had to change about my own experience here I would probably say my time management. During my first year I should have advanced more on the longer assessments such as the Extended Essay, which has taken up some time of my second year. In D2 there are a lot of deadlines with little time in between, so knowing what work to prioritize and good time management are key to achieve getting everything done on time.
